Dear friends,
It has been several weeks since my last update. In that time, we:
Were “sent” from Truro Anglican. The service was lovely, and we felt well supported and sent. I am very grateful for the 8 years we spent at this wonderful church, and for their partnership in this new adventure!
Worshipped poolside. Yes, we swam afterwards. Yes, my youngest started inching his way towards the pool after Communion, and yes he prayed the closing prayer standing ON the diving board. He was airborne as soon as the blessing was complete.
Spent an entire raining weekend at the Burke Centre Festival. It was so fun to be there with our church friends, and to connect with neighbors. Plus we experienced an outdoor beer garden in the middle of an epic thunderstorm!
Crammed into our house one last time for church. What a blessing!
In the last few weeks, the Lord has provided:
A large SUV that can tow a church trailer (donated!).
A trailer (also donated!).
A worship leader (I won’t have to do that part, too!).
A space to work (I’ve finally — at 38 — moved into my parents basement).
In the last few weeks, I have learned:
How to write an offer letter to an employee.
How to set up a new sound system.
How to build out Anglican worship templates in ProPresenter.
And I have learned (again) how important it is to pray, and to have (and make) pastor friends.
This Sunday morning is our “soft launch.” We’ll gather to set up our worship space for the very first time (starting at 8:45am at the Woods Community Center in Burke Centre). We’ll worship together (assuming we’ve finished with set up) at 10:15am. We’ll pray the whole liturgy. I’ll preach a proper sermon. We’ll do plenty of singing. There will likely be plenty of hiccups, and we still need to figure out what nursery/pre-school/kids min is going to look like. It’ll be messy, probably. I can’t wait.
We still have a few big prayer requests. The biggest is for an infant/toddler “lead.” This is a paid position ($25/hr), to give the parents of our littlest parishioners a break. Would you pray that God provides the right person?
And while it looks like our budget is reasonable, start ups are expensive, and this is the first month I’m getting paid by Trinity. We’re also paying for rental space, and paying Lourdes, our music director. So please continue to pray that the Lord would fund His mission here in Burke. If you feel so led, you can contribute here.
As always, thank you for your prayers! Feel free to check out our website and our church calendar, and don’t hesitate to be in touch (mseawright@trinityburke.com).
Your friend in Christ,
Rev. Mike Seawright
